Aadhaar Enabled Payment System
Aadhaar Enabled Payment System or AEPS is an Indian payment system developed by National Payments Corporation of India, based on unique identification number, the AADHAAR. The system allows a person holding an Aadhaar number to carry out financial transaction on a Micro-ATM provided by the Banking correspondent
AEPS was launched in March 2011. The pilot project was launched in Jharkhand state in association with three banks – Bank of India, Union Bank of India and ICICI Bank. Now the project has more Commercial banks like Punjab National Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Vijaya Bank, Central bank of India,Axis bank, UCO bank, Indian Bank which will soon be rolling out PDS & banking services in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Sikkim. Recently, State govt of Tripura had issued orders for SSP disbursement using AEPS & Tripura Gramin Bank pioneered this roll out taking lead by Social Old age Pension disbursement.
